Alamo Architects
Company Overview
ALAMO ARCHITECTS is a multidisciplinary firm, providing architectural design, planning, and interior design services, specializing in institutional, educational, multifamily and retail architecture, as well as master planning and project management for complex integrated urban projects. Established in 1984, and known for design that is functional, beautiful and innovative, Alamo Architects’ approximately 56 professionals work from their sole office location at the southern edge of downtown San Antonio.
Company History
Alamo Architects began in 1984 as a cooperative venture among four friends – Irby Hightower, FAIA, Mike Lanford, AIA, Billy Lawrence, AIA and Mike McGlone, AIA. All were contemporaries at the University of Texas at Austin in the School of Architecture. After their respective graduations they moved to New York where the galvanizing experience of living together in the City and working in dynamic international acclaimed offices cemented their relationship as an extended family, a sense of which is still integral to the firm’s character.
With a diverse client base providing project work in a wide range of sectors, the office of fifty+ people is continuing to develop Team Leaders and mentor individuals to meet increasing challenges of time & cost and accountability in project management. Departments supporting Urban Design, Construction Administration and comprehensive Interior Design have been developed as important resources.
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
The Texas Society of Architects awarded Alamo Architects the 2014 Architecture Firm Award. The award, the highest honor the Society can confer upon an architecture firm, is granted to a Texas-based firm that consistently produces notable works of Architecture and that has made significant contributions to the Profession and Community.
