HSW has distinguished itself as a leader in the engineering and environmental industry by adhering to its philosophy of strategic, long-range, management of environmental issues. This successful philosophy revolves around a project organizational structure that includes one of the firm’s principals to maintain strict quality assurance, effective communication and senior leadership. HSW has successfully applied innovative strategies to technical and regulatory issues nationwide, resulting in substantial cost and time savings. This approach assures our clients of the best possible service and value and is a key reason that over 90% of our work comes from previous customers. This same approach has also been integrated into our Water Resources and Civil/Land Development Practices.
Incorporated in the State of Florida, with offices located in Tampa, Orlando, Sarasota, West Palm Beach, and Gainesville, Florida, HSW was founded in 1988 by three professionals with experience in earth science, environmental, and engineering disciplines. Staff members have backgrounds in engineering (chemical, civil, environmental, electrical, and mechanical), geology, hydrogeology, soil physics, hydrology, hydrologic (groundwater and surface water) and solute transport modeling, chemistry, ecology, toxicology, GIS and mapping. All professional and technical staff members, including the principals, maintain focus on their areas of practice and client relationships.
HSW provides expertise in the following three service areas:
Civil/Land Development
HSW specializes in facility and site design and development and utilities master planning including a full suite of engineering services and associated surface/storm water management analysis, permitting and design; storm water and hydraulic modeling; roadway design, wetlands delineations and assessment, wildlife surveys, and mitigation.
Water Resources
Our staff is also experienced with the planning, management and development of water supply needs/sources; water treatment and water conservation programs such as safe aquifer yield determination, establishment of minimum flows and levels, water distribution system design and optimization, watershed modeling and flood area delineation, storm water conveyance, environmental remediation evaluation, design & optimization, environmental forensics, nutrient and sediment transport, and estuarine systems.
Environmental
HSW staff have extensive experience performing pre-acquisition site assessments (Phase I, Phase II, and III ESAs); determination of complete characterization of groundwater, soil, sediment, and surface water contamination; design, construction, and maintenance of remediation systems; design and implementation of groundwater and surface water monitoring programs; preparation of permit applications; performance of statistical trend analyses of water-quality and water-level data sets; ground- and surface-water flow and fate and transport modeling; Title V and Non-Title V air emission permitting; wetlands delineation and mitigation programs; and expert testimony in litigation cases.
