Company Overview
Incorporated in Houston, Texas, in April 1985, by Herbert V. Johnson, PE, HVJ Associates, Inc. (HVJ) provides a range of geotechnical, construction materials, environmental, and pavement engineering services. In August 2000, the firm opened its first branch offices in Austin and San Antonio; in 2004, opened its office in Dallas; and in 2007, opened its office in El Paso. Professional engineering services include:
• Geotechnical Engineering services include site exploration and drilling, soil laboratory testing, foundation and pavement design recommendations, earth materials failure investigations, and geologic fault hazard assessments.
• Construction Materials Engineering services include construction materials testing, construction management and inspection services, construction management assistance, quality assurance and quality control functions, and failure studies.
• Environmental services include the production of environmental site assessments (ESA) associated with property transfers, corridor studies, petroleum storage tank management, and waste management. Other environmental specialty services include wetland delineations and the assessment of critical habitats.
• Pavement Engineering services include pavement evaluation, pavement rehabilitation, pavement reconstruction, and new pavement design. Pavement evaluation and materials characterization services include the use of non-destructive falling weight deflectometer (FWD) testing equipment and traditional geotechnical methods. HVJ also provides complete network level pavement management systems. Complete design engineering services are offered to prepare construction documents for new street construction. Airfield pavement evaluation and engineering are also regular services.
