Company History
IA Interior Architects was founded in 1984 by David B. Mourning, who wanted to create an organization that focused on the “inside out,” as interior architects.
The hallmark of IA was the belief that it takes a special expertise to design an exceptional interior space, so the company sought to organize a team of talented, like-minded professionals that were passionate about well-executed, timeless and powerful design that not only improved company culture, operations and efficiency, but also people’s lives.
The first to pioneer an “on call” contract, IA was soon embarking on projects across the United States for clients who wanted a single point of contact and accountability, while receiving the benefits of value-cost engineering and process standardization. Clients immediately recognized the value in not “reinventing the wheel” on every project and lauded IA as a revered partner in their strategic real estate portfolio planning. As a result, IA opened offices in major market cities across the country to create a network of local market experts that could leverage the strengths and expertise of any one office, while collaborating on national and international accounts to provide the best service and cost efficiencies.
As market conditions continued to take American-based companies overseas, IA expanded its team to include offices in London and Shanghai. IA also created the IA Global Alliance, a consortium of affiliates in over 60 countries worldwide.
Today, IA’s years of global experience, combined with the expertise of its many design partners throughout the world, enables the firm to clearly understand the unique aspects of design and architecture in regions outside the United States, bridge cultural differences, meet local requirements and navigate with ease through local methods of construction.
