LOCHNEr

Company Overview

Building On Excellence.

For over 60 years, Lochner has been associated with transportation engineering innovation and integrity. Founded in 1944 by Harry W. Lochner, then a respected City of Chicago transportation planner, the firm has since grown to nearly 400 employees in 26 offices nationwide.

Today, our chairman is Harry’s son, Hal -- Harry W. Lochner, Jr. -- who continues to steer the company with great enthusiasm and vision. Larry Thomas serves as our president and share's the same values that have been the cornerstone of Lochner's organization.

Lochner’s history includes a long list of impressive firsts:
Creation of the Louisville Plan, the first comprehensive expressway plan integrating limited access highways in a major city.
Design of the first urban transportation plan to include limited access highways and transit. Produced for Atlanta, this Lochner Plan grew to incorporate local streets, parking, trucking and more, and was adopted as a model for more than 30 U.S. cities.
Invention of the high-speed spiral entrance/exit ramp.
Development of the first operational traffic surveillance and control plan.
Working with environmentalists to protect wildlife in Florida’s Alligator Alley, resulting in breakthrough Wildlife Crossings that have been used throughout the nation.
Launch of the PRISM system, which allows communities to manage electrical infrastructure and traffic signal needs -- improving public safety and mobility.
And many, many more.
From the United States’ longest span cable-stayed bridge to the world’s busiest airport, Lochner has helped our clients solve the most complex transportation demands with an eye toward historic preservation, minimal environmental impact and the needs of future generations.

We admit, the bar is pretty high -- and we strive to exceed it with every new assignment.

Still, the achievement we’re most proud of is the team of expert civil engineers, urban planners, environmental scientists and design technicians we’ve brought together. After all, an engineering firm is only as good as the individuals whose commitment, imagination and skill make it all happen.

We’re pleased that we’ve established an environment in which our people can rise to new challenges, working together to pioneer ideas and solutions. A diverse mix of backgrounds and areas of expertise, our employees have one thing in common -- a shared allegiance to the highest quality solutions.

This open, family environment helps build long-term relationships -- with our employees and our clients. In fact, some of our engineers have been with us for ten, twenty, even thirty years. This dedication brings an unmatched level of consistency and accountability to everything we do.

In this world of mergers and acquisitions, temporary workers and virtual offices, Lochner remains an independent and employee-owned business -- a family of professionals dedicated to transportation excellence.
