We work with state agencies, counties, cities, and the private sector including the occasional advocacy group. By offering our clients a multi-disciplined staff with experience in private as well as public sector transportation planning, we can provide innovative customer service and maximum efficiency. We are a state certified minority-owned firm.

Company History

Mirai Associates was formed in 1998 by three professionals with more than 40 years of combined experience in the Northwest. Tom Noguchi and Donald Samdahl started Mirai in the back room of Tom’s house using borrowed tables and blowing the electrical circuits in his 1940s vintage house. In 1999, Jana Janarthanan joined them and the office was moved to Bothell. The principals formed Mirai to assist jurisdictions in finding solutions to meeting the needs for transportation infrastructure to serve the growth in the region’s transportation system as required by Washington State's Growth Management Act (GMA). In 2005, Mirai added services in traffic engineering and traffic impact analysis, with the acquisition of the firm Transportation Planning & Engineering, Inc. (TP&E). Our services now include street network planning and design; traffic signal and illumination system design; pedestrian and bicycle planning and safety studies; parking studies; and traffic analysis for environmental checklists and impact statements. Mirai’s senior staff have worked closely with WSDOT, FTA and FHWA on planning and engineering projects. We have assisted with a number of project-related actions including advocacy for and preparation of Added Access reports and corridor transportation projects. We also know how to integrate NEPA/SEPA actions. Much of our experience involves meeting Federal, state and local agency standards. We now have a strong team of twenty to assist you with your planning and design projects.
