Company History
Pavarini & Greer Contractors and Builders was founded as a concrete Trade Contractor company in 1896 in Washington, DC, and quickly established a local reputation as capable builders dedicated to the quality of their trade. The firm was responsible for the construction of the National Bureau of Standards, the Police Court the Tuberculosis Hospital, and many schools, private hospitals and institutional buildings in the area.
In 1945, the company relocated to NYC as Pavarini Construction Co., Inc., helping to construct many of the concrete superstructures of NYC's most prominent office buildings. Among their accomplishments were the Seagram's Building, the Chrysler Building East, the MetLife Building, and the Daily News Building addition, the Hospital for Special Surgery, the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the Pfizer World HQ and RH Macy's.
As business flourished, the geographic marketplace for Pavarini also expanded and they extended the boundary of their services. Significant projects were undertaken outside the NYC area including the US Steel Building and the Alcoa Building in Pittsburgh, PA; the Engineering Quadrangle in Princeton, NJ; the Central Islip State Hospital in Long Island, NY; the Garden State Plaza and the Bergen Mall in NJ; St. Joseph's Cathedral in Hartford, CT; the Prudential Building and Charles River Park Project in Boston, MA; the Portland Building in Portland, OR; and the Kodak Pavilion at the 1964 World's Fair.
As a result of escalating construction activities in the Caribbean in the early 1960's, Pavarini established a regional office in Puerto Rico, later expanding its role to provide CM/GC services and completing public and private sector projects in St. Thomas and St. Croix.
In 1970, Pavarini opened an office in Florida, and began work on One Biscayne Tower, which was the tallest building in Florida at the time. Other projects have included the Buena Vista Hotel at Walt Disney World and the new Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami, as well as projects throughout Tampa, Miami, and Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
Pavarini moved their headquarters to Greenwich, CT in 1979, where they managed such notable projects as the Computer Associates HQ in Islandia, NY, Gucci New York's flagship facility, Columbia University's Business/Law Building, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center, the Oracle Corporation's HQ in Reston, VA and the American Folk Art Museum.
In 2001, Pavarini underwent a restructuring signified by the addition of the McGovern name to their Metro division in New York. Today, under the leadership of Eric McGovern, Pavarini McGovern continues to provide a full range of CM services with the traditional goals of professionalism, administrated through the unique construction approach of the McGoverns.
